Fuse creativity with innovation as you explore the exciting world of wearable technology. In this course, you will gain the practical knowledge and hands-on experience to create your own wearable tech – from interactive athletic wear to dynamic costumes.

You will learn conceptual design and how to refine your ideas, you will gain hands-on experience with pattern drafting and sewing, learn how to program with Lilypad Arduinos and Flora microcontrollers, and explore the fundamentals of electrical engineering and prototyping. You will learn actual techniques that are needed to be a fashion designer and then use your creativity to solve the real-world dilemmas of your choice, from concept to final prototype.

As part of this course, students will:

  • Gain key insights into wearable technology and how to

  • Learn the iterative design cycle as they refine their ideas from concept to working prototypes.

  • Gain hands-on experience with pattern-drafting and construction

  • Learn how to work with Lilypad Arduinos and Flora microcontrollers

  • Learn to write and develop programs for their microcontroller

  • Explore the fundamentals of electrical engineering

This week-long evening class will meet Monday-Friday, August 12-16th from 6-9pm each night.  Non-members $500, materials included.  Members, $400, materials included.  Registration for this class will close one week before the start, so that materials can be ordered.

Clare Tattersall founded ThunderLily in NYC to help people explore the intersection of fashion design and technology.  This group of artist-engineers works with various groups in NYC, teaches classes for young people and adults, and develops innovative software for turning 3D designs into 2D patterns for sewing.  This is an amazing opportunity to work with a dynamic instructor who is a leader and innovator in the field!

A place for tinkerers, makers, and small businesses to have space, contacts, and equipment to thrive. If you possess a passion for creating and making, a MINT membership is for you.
