    Holiday Mugs

    Come get yourself into the holiday spirit by making some festive mugs! We will employ several techniques to create some beautiful mugs. These will be fantastic gifts for the season (gifts for yourself or gifts for others!)

    This class is appropriate for all skill levels. We will provide hand building instruction and teach all participants to use the slab roller and extruder. We will also offer a wheel component to anyone who wants to try it out. This class includes 2 build days and 1 glazing session. Tentative pickup day will be Saturday, December 7th from 10AM-12PM.

    Teen Pottery Club: Volume 1

    Come join us for some continuing pottery education! This class is designed to be a continuation of previous pottery classes offered at the MINT. Some experience/ enrollment in previous courses is required. This course is open to students aged 12-15 who have an interest in expanding their pottery experience. This is the first of 4 sessions that will all focus on mastering fundamental principles of pottery. In this first session we will be focused on creating beautiful one-of-a-kind gifts out of clay for this holiday season.

    December 1st

    Holiday Gifts 

    Students will receive some instruction on the wheel. This can be an introduction or re-introduction. We will discuss centering, thickness, drying and several other pottery principles. 

    December 8th

    Holiday Gifts

    Students will trim their pieces from the previous week on the wheel. Students will learn some fundamentals of handbuilding and make some ornaments and/or candle sconces. 

    December 15th

    Holiday Gifts

    Students will learn about the fundamentals of glazing pottery and glaze all of their work from previous classes.

    December 22nd

    Holiday Gifts

    Students will pick up their finished pieces. We will make some wrapping paper and have a gift-wrapping station for finished items. A celebration with light refreshments will take place after gift wrapping.

    Beginner's Pottery on the Wheel:

    This 4-session class is designed for first time wheel users, who want to learn a new skill.

    In this class, we will learn:

    -how to work with a potter's wheel

    -how to center your clay

    -how to throw a basic form

    -How to trim your piece on the wheel

    -how to glaze your piece

    POTTERY: Fundamentals of Handbuilding

    Come join us for a comprehensive introduction (or re-introduction) to the world of pottery! We will cover pinch pot, coils, and slab techniques and create several unique projects along the way! We will also explore tools and texture and learn how to glaze your pieces.

In this session we will be focused on creating mugs using several different methods and techniques.

    January 

    Focus on mugs

    Students will learn or re-learn the fundamentals of the wheel. We will focus on safe operating habits, centering the clay, appropriate thickness/ drying and throwing a basic cylinder.

    Focus on mugs

    Students will learn when and how to trim their pottery on the wheel, how to dry pieces to prevent cracking and how to pull and attach handles to leather hard clay. Students will also learn how to roll a slab and construct a pinch pot.

    Students will learn how to glaze their pottery. We will cover principles of both brush and dip glazes as well as the basics of glaze layering.

    Students will get to see a kiln being unloaded and be introduced to kiln safety practices and operation. Students will have the opportunity to learn about different kinds of tea from a special guest, and the program will be rounded out with a “tea party” in the handmade mugs.

    Come join us for some continuing pottery education! This class is designed to be a continuation of previous pottery classes offered at the MINT. Some experience/ enrollment in previous courses is required. This course is open to students aged 12-15 who have an interest in expanding their pottery experience. This is the third of 4 sessions that will all focus on mastering fundamental principles of pottery. In this session we will be focused on creating unique decor and jewelry. We will also take a deeper look into glazing strategies

    Jewelry and Decor

    Students will learn or re-learn the fundamentals of the wheel. We will focus on safe operating habits, centering the clay, appropriate thickness/ drying and throwing a basic cylinder.

    Students will learn to trim their bells on the wheel. They will also be introduced to carving and slip trailing techniques to decorate their pieces. Students will learn some methods for making beads and pendants out out clay

    Students will learn principles of dip and brush glazing. Different firing techniques such as bead trees and stilts will be introduced as a function of glazing

    Students will get their fired components and learn to assemble their bells and jewelry. They will learn some basics of wire wrapping as well as some design fundamentals.
