    POTTERY: Handbuilding 2.0

    Come join us to continue to build upon your pottery skills. In this 5 week course, we will lead you through some more complex designs, dive into surface decoration and teach you to use the tools in the pottery studio.

    Wheel-Thrown Dinnerware 

    Skill Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate 

    Strengthen your skills on the wheel in this course designed to help you level up while creating functional pieces for use as dinnerware. Over the course of 5 weeks, participants will receive a quick refresh on wheel-throwing basics followed by instruction for throwing, trimming, and glazing mugs, bowls, plates, and pitchers. This course is designed for those with some previous wheel-throwing experience who are looking to gain more confidence in the craft through hands-on direction in a relaxed learning environment. 

    Educational outcomes: 

    ● Build confidence on the wheel 

    ● How to throw & trim mugs, bowls, plates, and pitchers 

    ● Pulling handles 

    ● Glazing wares 

    ● Reclaiming clay 

    What to Wear/Bring: Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy! You’d be surprised how we hold ourselves back when we’re worried about messing up nice clothing. Keep your hair tied back and leave hand jewelry at home.

    Holiday Ornaments

    The Mosaic and Pottery Shops are teaming up to bring you this truly unique and beautiful project!

    During week 1 we will make some ornament bases out of clay and apply a coat of underglaze. Once these are dried and fired by the instructor, we will meet back in the Mosaic Studio to create beautiful designs with tesserae! Once the design is complete, we will grout the creations and take them home. 

    In this class, we will learn:

    -how to use more than one shop to create beautiful products

    -how to make ornaments out of clay

    -how underglaze works

    -How to select tesserae for mosaic designs

    -how to grout and finish your piece

    Clay Sculpture

    In this 4-Session intermediate class, you will learn to design and construct a small-medium sized clay sculpture. Some hand-building experience is required for this course. 

    In this course, you will learn:

    -how to compose and construct a small sculpture 

    -principles of structure and design while hand building with clay

    -how to use the extruder

    -how to use different glazes for decorative effect

    Holiday Mugs

    Come get yourself into the holiday spirit by making some festive mugs! We will employ several techniques to create some beautiful mugs. These will be fantastic gifts for the season (gifts for yourself or gifts for others!)

    This class is appropriate for all skill levels. We will provide hand building instruction and teach all participants to use the slab roller and extruder. We will also offer a wheel component to anyone who wants to try it out. This class includes 2 build days and 1 glazing session. Tentative pickup day will be Saturday, December 7th from 10AM-12PM.

    Kids & Family Pottery Workshop - Ornaments


    Come join us for this workshop and make an ornament (3 styles: cookie cutter, face/character, candy canes)

    This is a beginner friendly class, instruction will be provided every step of the way. We will underglaze our creations at the end for a pop of color.

    Students will:

    • Make an ornament using the slab technique
    • Use sometimes surprising items to make texture on your pieces
    • How to use underglaze

      Participants should bring:

      • Clothes you don't mind getting messy

      *Pieces will be fired and clear glazed by instructors, Ornament pickup will be available on Sunday, Dec. 1st 9AM-12PM or by appointment*

      Teen Pottery Club: Volume 1

      Come join us for some continuing pottery education! This class is designed to be a continuation of previous pottery classes offered at the MINT. Some experience/ enrollment in previous courses is required. This course is open to students aged 12-15 who have an interest in expanding their pottery experience. This is the first of 4 sessions that will all focus on mastering fundamental principles of pottery. In this first session we will be focused on creating beautiful one-of-a-kind gifts out of clay for this holiday season.

      Students will receive some instruction on the wheel. This can be an introduction or re-introduction. We will discuss centering, thickness, drying and several other pottery principles.

      POTTERY: Fundamentals of Handbuilding

      Come join us for a comprehensive introduction (or re-introduction) to the world of pottery! We will cover pinch pot, coils, and slab techniques and create several unique projects along the way! We will also explore tools and texture and learn how to glaze your pieces.

      This class is designed for first time wheel users, who want to learn a new skill.

      Focus on mugs

      Students will learn or re-learn the fundamentals of the wheel. We will focus on safe operating habits, centering the clay, appropriate thickness/ drying and throwing a basic cylinder.

      Focus on mugs

      Students will learn when and how to trim their pottery on the wheel, how to dry pieces to prevent cracking and how to pull and attach handles to leather hard clay. Students will also learn how to roll a slab and construct a pinch pot.

      Students will learn how to glaze their pottery. We will cover principles of both brush and dip glazes as well as the basics of glaze layering.

      Students will get to see a kiln being unloaded and be introduced to kiln safety practices and operation. Students will have the opportunity to learn about different kinds of tea from a special guest, and the program will be rounded out with a “tea party” in the handmade mugs.

      Come join us for some continuing pottery education! This class is designed to be a continuation of previous pottery classes offered at the MINT. Some experience/ enrollment in previous courses is required. This course is open to students aged 12-15 who have an interest in expanding their pottery experience. This is the third of 4 sessions that will all focus on mastering fundamental principles of pottery. In this session we will be focused on creating unique decor and jewelry. We will also take a deeper look into glazing strategies

      Students will learn to trim their bells on the wheel. They will also be introduced to carving and slip trailing techniques to decorate their pieces. Students will learn some methods for making beads and pendants out out clay
