    Painting With Rae

    Join Rae Newell for an 8 week exploration in oil and acrylic painting. Rae brings to The MINT decades of painting and art instruction and we are very excited to have her! This class is open to adults and is hosted in our Jr MINT room at 112 Quality Lane. 

    Students should bring their favorite brushes, paints, pallet, and canvas. 

    If you are looking for supplies, please check out The MINT's Creative Reuse Shop, reMake, at 72 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland or Kaleidoscope Arts on Center Street also in Downtown. Rae will also have items on hand for things that get left at home.

    Valentine's Mugs and Gnomes

    Love is in the air! We will employ several techniques to create some beautiful mugs. These will be fantastic gifts for the season (gifts for yourself or gifts for others!)

    This class is appropriate for all skill levels. We will provide hand building instruction and teach all participants to use the slab roller and extruder. We will also offer a wheel component to anyone who wants to try it out. This class includes 2 build days and 1 glazing session.

    The Joy of Letterpress

    About the Class

    Introduction to letterpress, and the joy of designing and printing wet ink on paper.

    A hands on class to learn the process of letterpress printing.  Attendees will be guided through the entire process of planning, preparing a chase with printing blocks, setting up a table top press, inking up a press, and making prints.  

    You will experience all the stages of creating a simple print, how to safely operate the printing equipment, and how to clean up.

    No prerequisites, or material fees.  Printing blocks, paper, and ink will be provided.  

    You will be able to keep any prints you create.

    • Techniques to enhance your existing letterpress skills.
    • Tips and tricks for achieving precision and creativity in your designs.

    basics of Stained Glass: choosing coordinating colors, cutting shapes, foiling, soldering, and finishing. 

    Everyone will go home with a small completed piece and the beginner skills to continue the craft. 

    All are welcome! No prior experience with stained glass necessary.

    Pottery Shop Orientation

    New to the Mint and are excited for the pottery studio? This class is for you! Learn how to get comfortable in the space so that you can conquer any project with confidence!

    This is an orientation class, please do not plan on making an item to take home with you. This class is required in order to use the pottery studio independently. 

    What You’ll Learn:

    • Intro to the studio space
    • How to set up a pottery wheel to throw
    • Where work should be placed to be fired
    • Cleaning procedures and expectations
    • Where tools belong
    • Reclaim location
    • Glaze guidelines
    • Types of clay and glaze allowed
    • How to use the slab roller
    • How to use the extruder

    Sea Glass Pendants 

    with Marla Cohen


    Friday, February 20th

    5:00 - 8:00pm 

    $120 Members / $135 Non-Members


    Come create jewelry from the ocean! In this sea glass class we will create pendants out of ocean tumbled sea glass and learn jewelry finishing techniques to complete the look.


    You’ll be able to wear your creations straight out of class!


    Students will learn about the preparation of glass and how to use the drop shaft Dremel drill along with safety basics. The class will practice drilling samples of sea glass before progressing to drilling their selected statement pieces.


    Finally students will use jewelry hand tools to learn basic beading and finishing techniques like bails and jump rings. Multiple pendants may be made as time allows.


    The instructor will provide a sampling of sea glass to practice on as well as a variety of statement glass pieces to choose from.


    Students may bring their own pieces of sea glass to work on but please have it soaked in water for at least 1 week prior to class with a longer soak time for thicker pieces of glass.


    No experience necessary.

    Wear closed-toed shoes.

    Please tie long hair back away from face.

    Bring a water bottle and snack.

    Make Your Own Wall Candleholder

    Instructors: Savannah

    Do you love candlelight and want to make your own work of art to display them? This is the class for you! Combining wheel throwing, hand building, and painting, this class is a great way to train all your pottery skills!

    What You’ll Learn:

    • Working with the Wheel: Learn to throw a taper candle holder on the wheel.
    • Handbuilding: Learn how to work with slabs to prevent warping and essentials of joining pieces.
    • Painting: Learn how to work with underglaze to create desired effect.
    • Glazing: Add the finishing touch by glazing your pottery.

    Introduction to Hand builiding: A Coiled Cookie Jar

    Coil pottery is often considered the most beginner-friendly method. You don’t need a wheel - just roll your clay into coils, layer them up, and shape them at your own pace.

    What You’ll Learn

    Prepare your Base: Roll out your slab base. Use a round object like a plate to cut around with a knife to make a perfect circle.

    Create Coils: Roll the clay on a lightly damped surface with both hands to create an even coil.

    Secure Coils: Learn how to secure your coils by using clay slip and scoring your piece.

    Shape Your Pieces: Learn how to build up layers of coils to form the desired shape.

    Glaze: Add finishing touch by glazing your final piece.
