    Painting With Rae

    Join Rae Newell for an 8 week exploration in oil and acrylic painting. Rae brings to The MINT decades of painting and art instruction and we are very excited to have her! This class is open to adults and is hosted in our Jr MINT room at 112 Quality Lane. 

    Students should bring their favorite brushes, paints, pallet, and canvas. 

    If you are looking for supplies, please check out The MINT's Creative Reuse Shop, reMake, at 72 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland or Kaleidoscope Arts on Center Street also in Downtown. Rae will also have items on hand for things that get left at home.

    Pet portrait mosaics - 3 session workshop!

    Come and create a mosaic representation of your favorite pet!  Dogs, cats, horses, lizards, chickens.....all are appropriate.  Project will create a 8 x 10 portrait suitable for framing or simple display. This class is beginner friendly, so all skill levels are welcome!

    In this class, participants will learn:

    • how to transfer an image to a substrate.
    • how to prepare an appropriate substrate
    • how to cut glass and other tesserae to create an image
    • basic principles of classical mosaics
    • how to grout and finish the project

    PLEASE BRING a black and white photocopy of your pet as well as the original color photo. Our substrate is 8 x 10 so copy should be similar in size.  The original is used only for reference

    Create Your Own Stained Glass Sun-Catcher!

    Make your own stunning stained glass sun-catcher to hang in a sunny spot or give as a thoughtful gift!

    In this two-session class, you will learn how to:

    • Cut glass to a specific size and shape from a pattern
    • Apply foil to the glass for soldering
    • Solder the glass pieces together
    • Add hooks for hanging
    • Patina the solder for a finished look

    By combining different colors, shapes, and sizes, you'll walk away with a beautiful ornament to brighten your home.

    Join us at the JR MINT for our exciting Engineering Week camp! This week-long program, from 8am to 4pm daily, is designed to ignite a passion for STEM in young minds (ages [K-3] & [4-6], please register your child for the appropriate group!).

    This is the K-3rd grade registration.

    Explore different types of engineering:

    • Build bridges and towers! (Civil Engineering)
    • Design and build moving machines! (Mechanical Engineering)
    • Solve environmental problems! (Environmental Engineering)
    • Create flying machines! (Aerospace Engineering)
    • Build circuits that light up! (Electrical Engineering)

    Camp Details:

    HALF WEEK CAMP REGISTRATION

    We understand that families have varying needs during school breaks, and we want to be as accommodating as possible. We also recognize that financial considerations are important, and we've been working to find a balance that supports both our families and the camp.

    With that in mind, we're opening a half-week option for our February Break Engineering Camp.

    The cost for the half-week is $175.

    Important: After you have registered using the link above, please email us at marissa@rutlandmint.org to let us know which days your child will be attending and  what age group they fall into (K-3rd or 4th-6th). This will help us ensure that we have adequate staffing on each day.

    What to Pack:

    • Snacks and lunch for your child each day.
    • Weather-appropriate clothing, including layers and jackets, as some activities may take place outdoors (weather permitting).

    The Wheel for Beginners

    This class is perfect for first-time potter's wheel users looking to learn a new skill and create something beautiful!

    What You’ll Learn:

    • Working with the Wheel: Get familiar with the potter's wheel.
    • Centering Clay: Learn the essential technique of centering your clay.
    • Throwing a Basic Form: Shape your clay into a foundational form.

    Build Your Own Fish Landing Net

    Attention outdoor enthusiasts!

    Create your own landing net for your fishing adventures. In this four-part class, you’ll cut and assemble all the parts needed to craft a unique, signature net. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a custom 15-inch landing net ready to hit the water!

    What You’ll Learn

    This class combines traditional woodworking techniques with modern laser customization to create a one-of-a-kind handle for your net. You’ll gain hands-on experience in the woodshop and laser lab to design and build a functional and beautiful net.

    Note: This is not an introductory class. Participants must complete the woodshop orientation before enrolling in this course.

    Introduction to the MINT Woodshop: Create Your Own Wooden Spatula

    Come on everybody—let's make some sawdust!

    Take a tour through the woodshop and get hands-on experience with some of the most commonly used woodworking tools. This orientation is perfect for beginners and also fulfills the requirements to become independently certified to use the woodshop during member hours.

    As part of the class, you’ll create your very own wooden spatula—a fun and approachable project that introduces you to the essential tools and techniques of woodworking.

    What You’ll Learn

    In this class, you’ll master the safe operation of:

    • Compound Miter Saw (Chopsaw): For precise crosscuts and angled cuts.
    • SawStop Table Saw: For ripping boards to size with advanced safety features.
    • Jointer and Planer: For creating smooth, flat, and uniform surfaces.
    • Hand Tools and Measuring Techniques: Learn the basics of shaping, sanding, and measuring for a polished finish.

    Safety First

    No prior experience is necessary! We’ll provide all the guidance and tools you need. Bring your own safety glasses if you prefer, or borrow a pair from us.

    We'll be focused on supporting local Scouts in constructing their cars for the annual Pinewood Derby.

    Introduction to MIG Welding: Metal Shop Basics

    In this fun and comfortable environment, you will learn the awesome skill of MIG welding, one of the most versatile welding techniques. No previous experience is necessary—everyone is welcome!

    By the end of this class, you will be able to:

    • Turn on the MIG welder and set it correctly for the type of material you are using
    • Attach two pieces of metal together
    • Use a drill press, angle grinder, and metal brake to shape and bend metal

    This hands-on class is designed to introduce you to the tools and techniques used in the metal shop. You’ll gain foundational skills that can be applied to future projects, whether you're interested in fabrication, home décor, or practical repairs.

    Safety First!

    To participate in this class, you must wear closed-toed shoes and natural fiber clothing such as cotton or wool. A flannel shirt, jeans, and hiking boots should work perfectly!

    We will provide all necessary PPE and safety equipment.

      Once a month, we open our doors for a Stained Glass Drop-In Support Group—a space where you can work on your current projects and get the guidance you need to bring your vision to life.

      • Guidance from a Glass Guild member to help with advice, troubleshooting, and technique support
      • A collaborative and creative environment for beginners and experienced artisans alike

      MOSAIC TABLES

      Transform a tabletop into a work of art!

      In this introductory 4-session course, you’ll explore the art of creating mosaic tabletops. From selecting diverse substrates to mastering adhesive and grouting techniques, this class will equip you to craft a stunning outdoor table that stands up to Vermont weather. Bring your own table or choose from a selection available at The MINT.

      • Understand how to choose a suitable table and substrate for outdoor use.
      • Plan and create a custom mosaic tabletop design.
