    Painting With Rae

    Join Rae Newell for an 8 week exploration in oil and acrylic painting. Rae brings to The MINT decades of painting and art instruction and we are very excited to have her! This class is open to adults and is hosted in our Jr MINT room at 112 Quality Lane. 

    Students should bring their favorite brushes, paints, pallet, and canvas. 

    If you are looking for supplies, please check out The MINT's Creative Reuse Shop, reMake, at 72 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland or Kaleidoscope Arts on Center Street also in Downtown. Rae will also have items on hand for things that get left at home.

    MOSAIC TABLES

    Transform a tabletop into a work of art!

    In this introductory 3-session course, you’ll explore the art of creating mosaic tabletops. We will be using glass and ceramics to mosaic a round table top which also acts as a tray.

    From selecting diverse substrates to mastering adhesive and grouting techniques, this class will equip you to craft a stunning table that doubles as a tray.

    • Plan and create a custom mosaic tabletop design on a round table
    • Learn to cut and use glass and ceramics
    • Learn techniques to ensure a level, functional surface
    • Learn adhesive, grouting, and finishing techniques for durability and beauty

    Tool Training:

    Introduction to X-Carve CNC

    Tuesday, April 21st / 5:30-8:30pm

    This Intro to X-Carve Pro CNC course is a required orientation for anyone wishing to use the X-Carve at The Mint, and provides a more in-depth, hands-on introduction than a basic overview.

    During this three-hour class, students will learn how to design a CNC cut file using Easel software and safely set up and run a cut on the X-Carve Pro, gaining practical experience with both the software and the machine.

    Instruction covers proper workflow, tool setup, material preparation, zeroing, and safe operation, ensuring participants understand not just how to run the CNC, but why each step matters.

    Students are encouraged to bring a flash drive containing an .svg or .dxf file if they would like guidance on working with their own designs, though this is optional and not required to participate fully in the class.

      INTRODUCTION TO 3D PRINTING- FDM

      Join us at The MINT for a brief orientation on FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printing.

      This session covers the different rapid prototyping technologies and a brief history, focusing on FDM 3D printing and how printers work today.

      We’ll review printer parts, safety basics, common printing techniques, and best practices. You’ll also learn where to find design files, how slicing software works, and what settings to focus on.

      The session wraps up with a demo using PrusaSlicer, showing the full process from STL (model) file to print.

      Time permitting, prints will be started during the class, with pickup available if desired.

      This orientation is ideal for anyone new to 3D printing or looking to use The MINT’s FDM printers. Attendees will receive access to the printer reservation calendar after the session.

      Make Your Own Planter

      Spring into planting season with some handcrafted planters and row markers!

      In this class we will build pots for your favorite plants using slabs. Students will learn to use the slab roller and dive into surface design. We will discuss and apply several methods of adding texture to your slab pieces and demonstrate a range of designs. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to make some row markers for the impending garden season!

      Stained Glass Air Plant Holder



      In this How-To class, participants will learn the

      basics of Stained Glass: choosing coordinating colors, cutting shapes, foiling, soldering, and finishing. 

      Everyone will go home with a small completed piece and the beginner skills to continue the craft. 

      All are welcome! No prior experience with stained glass necessary.

      This class is considered an Orientation Class for Members who will then be able to access the shop on their own.

      Introduction to the MINT Woodshop: Create Your Own Wooden Spatula

      Come on everybody—let's make some sawdust!

      Take a tour through the woodshop and get hands-on experience with some of the most commonly used woodworking tools. This orientation is perfect for beginners and also fulfills the requirements to become independently certified to use the woodshop during member hours.

      As part of the class, you’ll create your very own wooden spatula—a fun and approachable project that introduces you to the essential tools and techniques of woodworking.

      What You’ll Learn

      In this class, you’ll master the safe operation of:

      • Compound Miter Saw (Chopsaw): For precise crosscuts and angled cuts.
      • SawStop Table Saw: For ripping boards to size with advanced safety features.
      • Jointer and Planer: For creating smooth, flat, and uniform surfaces.
      • Hand Tools and Measuring Techniques: Learn the basics of shaping, sanding, and measuring for a polished finish.

      Safety First

      No prior experience is necessary! We’ll provide all the guidance and tools you need. Bring your own safety glasses if you prefer, or borrow a pair from us.

      Introduction to letterpress, and the joy of designing and printing wet ink on paper.

      A hands on class to learn the process of letterpress printing.  Attendees will be guided through the entire process of planning, preparing a chase with printing blocks, setting up a table top press, inking up a press, and making prints.  

      You will experience all the stages of creating a simple print, how to safely operate the printing equipment, and how to clean up.

      No prerequisites, or material fees.  Printing blocks, paper, and ink will be provided.  

      You will be able to keep any prints you create.

      • Techniques to enhance your existing letterpress skills.
      • Tips and tricks for achieving precision and creativity in your designs.

      You're The Bee's Knees - Make Your Own Honey Pot

      You won’t BEE-lieve how much fun you’ll have creating your very own honey pot! This sweet class is designed for potters who already have some experience on the wheel and are ready to expand their skills by learning to make a simple lidded piece. Add your personal touch to make it truly buzzworthy!
