    Sewing T-Shirt Quilts

    Clean out your closet and make a cozy quilt! T-shirt quilts are wonderful gifts, keepsakes and covers. Join Cortney as she walks you through the process of constructing your own! 

    In this class, you will learn:

    -How to measure and cut your old T-shirts into quilt squares

    -How to arrange your squares into a beautiful pattern.

    -How to setup your sewing machine for this project.

    -How to pin and sew the project.

    -How to apply and sew backing 

    -How to make a frame for the quilt

    -How to finish the quilt using the tie method. 

    Participants should bring 15-25 t-shirts that they would like to use for this project. Some additional materials will be available. 

    $60 Materials fee is included in the class cost.

    This class takes place at the MINT Makerspace, 112 Quality Lane. Class will be held in the Junior MINT space.

    Beginners' Guide to Drawing

    *This class takes place at 72 Merchant's Row*

    Join us at the MINT Downtown and learn the basics of drawing in this 3-part class!

    In this class we will cover the fundamentals of drawing. Each week we will discuss a new technique or method and work on an image that incorporates that technique. 

    Learning Objectives:

    Week 1: Shadow and Light- this week we will jump in on the basics of shading to create depth. We will look at how you can use shadow and light to create dimension and illusion in your work. We will explore various shading styles and techniques and learn to shade different shapes and surfaces for the most realistic effect. 

    Week 2: One Point Perspective- this week we will introduce a horizon line and learn to work with one point perspective in order to create the illusion of distance. We will discuss how to delineate the foreground from the background and how to incorporate shading into objects drawn using one point perspective. 

    Week 3: Composition- this week we will dive into the nuances of composition. We will explore positive and negative space and how the surroundings interact with the central subject of your composition. We will work with ordinary objects and build environment around them taking vertical and horizontal space into consideration.

    Painting With Rae

    Join Rae Newell for an 8 week exploration in oil and acrylic painting. Rae brings to The MINT decades of painting and art instruction and we are very excited to have her! This class is open to adults and is hosted in our Jr MINT room at 112 Quality Lane. 

    Students should bring their favorite brushes, paints, pallet, and canvas. 

    If you are looking for supplies, please check out The MINT's Creative Reuse Shop, reMake, at 72 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland or Kaleidoscope Arts on Center Street also in Downtown. Rae will also have items on hand for things that get left at home.

    This class is designed for first time wheel users, who want to learn a new skill.

    You're The Bee's Knees - Make Your Own Honey Pot

    You won’t BEE-lieve how much fun you’ll have creating your very own honey pot! This sweet class is designed for intermediate potters who already have some experience on the wheel and are ready to expand their skills by learning to make a simple lidded piece. Add your personal touch to make it truly buzzworthy!

    In This Class, You Will:

    • Learn to throw a simple lidded form
    • Throw a lid with a knob
    • Create a flange to hold the lid securely
    • Measure to create a fitted lid
    • Practice simple trimming techniques
    • Explore surface design options
    • Discuss and apply glazing techniques

    Important Note:
    Please dress appropriately—working with clay can get a bit messy!

    Introduction to MIG Welding: Create Your Own Shelf Bracket

    In this fun and comfortable environment, you will learn the awesome skill of how to use a MIG Welder, one of the most versatile welding tools. No previous experience is necessary—everyone is welcome!

    By the end of this class, you will be able to:

    • Turn on the MIG welder and set it correctly for the type of material you are using
    • Attach two pieces of metal together
    • Use a drill press, angle grinder, and metal brake to shape and bend metal

    During the class, you'll create a functional and stylish shelf bracket—a perfect beginner project that introduces key techniques used in the metal shop. You’ll also gain insight into other possibilities in the shop, like fabricating custom furniture, unique home décor, or practical tools.

    Safety First!
    To participate in this class, you must wear closed-toed shoes and natural fiber clothing such as cotton or wool. A flannel shirt, jeans, and hiking boots should work perfectly!

    We will provide all necessary PPE and safety equipment.

      Introduction to the MINT Woodshop: Create Your Own Wooden Spatula

      Come on everybody—let's make some sawdust!

      Take a tour through the woodshop and get hands-on experience with some of the most common woodworking tools. During this orientation, you’ll also create your very own wooden spatula, a perfect beginner project to introduce you to the tools and techniques of woodworking.

      In this class, you will learn the safe way to:

      • Cut with a compound miter saw (chopsaw)
      • Use our SawStop table saw
      • Operate both the jointer and planer
      • Use a variety of hand tools and measuring techniques

      Absolutely no experience is necessary! If you have any interest in woodworking, this is the class for you.

      Think Safety First: Bring your own safety glasses if you like, or borrow a pair from us.

      Pet portrait mosaics - 3 session workshop!

      Come and create a mosaic representation of your favorite pet!  Dogs, cats, horses, lizards, chickens.....all are appropriate.  Project will create a 8 x 10 portrait suitable for framing or simple display. This class is beginner friendly, so all skill levels are welcome!

      In this class, participants will learn:

      • how to transfer an image to a substrate.
      • how to prepare an appropriate substrate
      • how to cut glass and other tesserae to create an image
      • basic principles of classical mosaics
      • how to grout and finish the project

      PLEASE BRING a black and white photocopy of your pet as well as the original color photo. Our substrate is 8 x 10 so copy should be similar in size.  The original is used only for reference

      Letterpress for Beginners

      Join us for a short demonstration and an introduction to Letterpress equipment!

      This class repeats on the first Wednesday of every month

      5:30pm to 7pm.

      Class participants will leave knowing how to:

      • "Lock up a chase" - Composing the printing elements (type, blocks, furniture) into a printable configuration, ready to load into the press
      • "Set up a job" - Specifying and preparations for a printing run including paper selection and cutting, imagery, ink color and press adjustments

      This beginner class will get your foot in the door of the Letterpress shop. In order to work independently in Letterpress you will need this foundational course.

      In this class things could get a little bit messy, please dress appropriately.

        Build Your Own Fish Landing Net

        Attention outdoor enthusiasts!

        Create your own landing net for your fishing adventures. In this four-part class, you’ll cut and assemble all the parts needed to craft a unique, signature net. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a custom 15-inch landing net ready to hit the water!

        MOSAIC TABLES

        Transform a tabletop into a work of art!

        In this introductory 4-session course, you’ll explore the art of creating mosaic tabletops. From selecting diverse substrates to mastering adhesive and grouting techniques, this class will equip you to craft a stunning outdoor table that stands up to Vermont weather. Bring your own table or choose from a selection available at The MINT.
