    Holiday Mugs

    Come get yourself into the holiday spirit by making some festive mugs! We will employ several techniques to create some beautiful mugs. These will be fantastic gifts for the season (gifts for yourself or gifts for others!)

    This class is appropriate for all skill levels. We will provide hand building instruction and teach all participants to use the slab roller and extruder. We will also offer a wheel component to anyone who wants to try it out. This class includes 2 build days and 1 glazing session. Tentative pickup day will be Saturday, December 7th from 10AM-12PM.

    CUTTING BOARDS

    Make yourself an amazing cutting board or charcuterie board while learning the basics of woodworking.

    In this class you will learn:

    • use of the table saw
    • use of the chop saw
    • use of the band saw
    • use of router table
    • use of the jointer and planer. 

    This class also provides the basic knowledge gained in the woodshop orientation course allowing members to use the woodshop during member hours.

    Knitted Snowmen

    Join Kaylee at the MINT downtown for a fun winter yarn project! In this 2- session workshop, you will learn to knit your own snowman complete with a hat and scarf. These are a fun projects for cold days, and they make great gifts!

    Teen Pottery Club: Volume 1

    Come join us for some continuing pottery education! This class is designed to be a continuation of previous pottery classes offered at the MINT. Some experience/ enrollment in previous courses is required. This course is open to students aged 12-15 who have an interest in expanding their pottery experience. This is the first of 4 sessions that will all focus on mastering fundamental principles of pottery. In this first session we will be focused on creating beautiful one-of-a-kind gifts out of clay for this holiday season.

    Painting With Recycled Canvas

    Join us at the MINT Downtown 

    Have you ever wondered about how to re-use your old canvases? We have an idea!

    Join Caitlin at the MINT downtown, and complete a fun, creative painting using an old painted canvas, masking tape and some gesso and imagination. We will be working with acrylic paint, and we will be messy! Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

    Introduction to Home Improvement 

    This is a course to engage your hands and your mind learning the ins-and-outs of home remodeling. We will start with a power tools overview, gain an understanding of how to successfully deconstruct and demolish sections of your home, and prepare you for that much desired home update!

    You will learn aspects of:

    • Preparing for what's possible - looking at layout and design. 
    • Learning what you can and cannot do with plumbing and electrical.
    • Removing drywall, plaster and lath - exposing wall internal structure.
    • Installing the finished product - cabinets flooring tile and trim work.

    This is a four-session class:

    Introduction to the MINT Woodshop

    Come on everybody; let's make some sawdust!

    Take a tour through the wood shop and learn how to use some of the more common woodworking tools. 

    In this class you will learn the safe way to:   

    • Cut with a compound miter saw (chopsaw)
    • Use our SawStop tablesaw
    • Use both the jointer and planer 
    • Use a variety handtools and measuring techniques

    Absolutely no experience is necessary! If you have any interest in woodworking this is the class for you. 

    Think safety first: bring you own safety glasses if you desire. There will be some on-hand to borrow as well.

    Letterpress for Beginners

    Join us for a short demonstration and an introduction to Letterpress equipment!

    This class repeats on the first Wednesday of every month

    5:30pm to 7pm.

    Class participants will leave knowing how to:

    • "Lock up a chase" - Composing the printing elements (type, blocks, furniture) into a printable configuration, ready to load into the press
    • "Set up a job" - Specifying and preparations for a printing run including paper selection and cutting, imagery, ink color and press adjustments

    This beginner class will get your foot in the door of the Letterpress shop. In order to work independently in Letterpress you will need this foundational course.

    In this class things could get a little bit messy, please dress appropriately.

    Mosaic Stemware

    This class takes place at the MINT makerspace, 112 Quality Lane

    Join Jennifer in our Glass Studio and make some beautiful stemware!

    In this class we will create a mosaic design on the base of a glass or mug. You will learn how to lay out, adhere and complete a micro mosaic.

    These unique glasses are a beautiful project, gift or date night activity!

    In this class, you will learn:

    1.  Understand glass as a mosaic substrate

    2.  Learn and understand properties of Apoxie Sculpt and other similar products.  

    3.  Learn and understand how to cut micromosaic tesserae and create a pleasing design.  

    4.  Learn how to finish stemware in a food/drink safe manner.

    Build & Paint a Winter Sled with Gail

    Mosaic Ornaments at Castleton Rec Center

    In this 2 hour workshop we will be creating a small grout less mosaic on a wooden ornament. We will use small fragments of glass, ceramics and enamel to construct a colorful design. Participants will take home their completed piece at the end of class.

    • strategies to design your placement of tiles

    • cut tiles into smaller shapes and sizes

    • finalize your design and adhere it to the substrate

      Micromosaics

      This class takes place at the MINT makerspace, 112 Quality Lane

      Join Jennifer in our Glass Studio and learn the art of micromosaics! Micromosaics can be beautiful trinkets, gifts or date night activities, come get creative at the MINT! 

      Micromosaics are created from tiny fragments of glass, called tesserae. The tesserae are mosaic pieces made from an opaque vitreous glass or enamel in a multitude of colors called smalto. The smalto is pulled into rods or threads, called filati (spun enamel), and then left to cool.
      Detail, patience, and a willingness to "drop in" are key. Fine hand skills and the use of tweezers are also essential for this type of art making.
      Appropriate for all levels of experience.
      Please be sure to bring any corrective eyewear you need!

      Learning Objectives:

      1.  Understand the variety and appropriateness of various small substrates.

      2.  Learn and understand the properties and uses for Apoxie Sculpt and similar products.

      3.  Learn and understand how to cut micromosaic tesserae and how to create a pleasing design.

      4.  Learn and understand how to finish your micromosaic piece.

      Sewing T-Shirt Quilts

      Clean out your closet and make a cozy quilt! T-shirt quilts are wonderful gifts, keepsakes and covers. Join Cortney as she walks you through the process of constructing your own! 

      In this class, you will learn:

      -How to measure and cut your old T-shirts into quilt squares

      -How to arrange your squares into a beautiful pattern.

      -How to setup your sewing machine for this project.

      -How to pin and sew the project.

      -How to apply and sew backing 

      -How to make a frame for the quilt

      -How to finish the quilt using the tie method. 

      Participants should bring 15-25 t-shirts that they would like to use for this project. Some additional materials will be available. 

      $60 Materials fee is included in the class cost.

      Beginners' Guide to Drawing

      *This class takes place at 72 Merchant's Row*

      Join us at the MINT Downtown and learn the basics of drawing in this 3-part class!

      In this class we will cover the fundamentals of drawing. Each week we will discuss a new technique or method and work on an image that incorporates that technique. 

      Learning Objectives:

      Week 1: Shadow and Light- this week we will jump in on the basics of shading to create depth. We will look at how you can use shadow and light to create dimension and illusion in your work. We will explore various shading styles and techniques and learn to shade different shapes and surfaces for the most realistic effect. 

      Week 2: One Point Perspective- this week we will introduce a horizon line and learn to work with one point perspective in order to create the illusion of distance. We will discuss how to delineate the foreground from the background and how to incorporate shading into objects drawn using one point perspective. 

      Week 3: Composition- this week we will dive into the nuances of composition. We will explore positive and negative space and how the surroundings interact with the central subject of your composition. We will work with ordinary objects and build environment around them taking vertical and horizontal space into consideration.

      Students will learn or re-learn the fundamentals of the wheel. We will focus on safe operating habits, centering the clay, appropriate thickness/ drying and throwing a basic cylinder.
