    Make Your Own Planter

    Spring into planting season with some handcrafted planters and row markers!

    In this class we will build pots for your favorite plants using slabs. Students will learn to use the slab roller and dive into surface design. We will discuss and apply several methods of adding texture to your slab pieces and demonstrate a range of designs. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to make some row markers for the impending garden season!

    Learn about several different methods to create letterpress capable printing blocks for your printing projects. Class discussion on hand carving, laser engraving, and materials collage.


    Participants will get hands on experience with carving a linoleum block.


    Together the class members will select/modify a digital image and engrave a linoleum block. At the end of the class we will use the blocks created to make prints.

    About the Class

    Learn how easy and fun it is to compose classic letterpress type on the vintage Ludlow Typograph. You'll set your own type!

    Maybe your name and address for personal stationery, or maybe a favorite saying or sentiment for art prints and cards. Choose from a large and growing variety of fonts and sizes that you can use to print your own letterpress projects!

    Cast metal type can be used for stamping a variety of materials, such as clay or polymer clay or hand stamping with an inkpad. There will be a $1 material cost for each slug (cast line of type), which you can take with you.

    INTRODUCTION TO 3D PRINTING- FDM

    Join us at The MINT for a brief orientation on FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printing.

    This session covers the different rapid prototyping technologies and a brief history, focusing on FDM 3D printing and how printers work today.

    We’ll review printer parts, safety basics, common printing techniques, and best practices. You’ll also learn where to find design files, how slicing software works, and what settings to focus on.

    The session wraps up with a demo using PrusaSlicer, showing the full process from STL (model) file to print.

    Time permitting, prints will be started during the class, with pickup available if desired.

    This orientation is ideal for anyone new to 3D printing or looking to use The MINT’s FDM printers. Attendees will receive access to the printer reservation calendar after the session.

    Introduction to the MINT Woodshop: Create Your Own Wooden Spatula

    Come on everybody—let's make some sawdust!

    Take a tour through the woodshop and get hands-on experience with some of the most commonly used woodworking tools. This orientation is perfect for beginners and also fulfills the requirements to become independently certified to use the woodshop during member hours.

    As part of the class, you’ll create your very own wooden spatula—a fun and approachable project that introduces you to the essential tools and techniques of woodworking.

    What You’ll Learn

    In this class, you’ll master the safe operation of:

    • Compound Miter Saw (Chopsaw): For precise crosscuts and angled cuts.
    • SawStop Table Saw: For ripping boards to size with advanced safety features.
    • Jointer and Planer: For creating smooth, flat, and uniform surfaces.
    • Hand Tools and Measuring Techniques: Learn the basics of shaping, sanding, and measuring for a polished finish.

    You're The Bee's Knees - Make Your Own Honey Pot

    You won’t BEE-lieve how much fun you’ll have creating your very own honey pot! This sweet class is designed for potters who already have some experience on the wheel and are ready to expand their skills by learning to make a simple lidded piece. Add your personal touch to make it truly buzzworthy!

    Two-Color Letterpress Printing

    Learn principles, techniques, and processes for printing with more than one color. Printing block designs, registration, ink qualities, and wet on dry process will be discussed. Hands on printing of a 2-color project.

    Attendees will learn how to design and execute multi-color prints using physical printing blocks and Letterpress equipment.

    Painting With Rae

    Join Rae Newell for a 10 week exploration in oil and acrylic painting. Rae brings to The MINT decades of painting and art instruction and we are very excited to have her! This class is open to adults and is hosted in our Jr MINT room at 112 Quality Lane. 

    Students should bring their favorite brushes, paints, pallet, and canvas. 

    If you are looking for supplies, please check out The MINT's Creative Reuse Shop, reMake, at 72 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland or Kaleidoscope Arts on Center Street also in Downtown. Rae will also have items on hand for things that get left at home.
