Mend, Hem & Sew (101)

Does your favorite T-shirt have a hole or a busted seam? Did your best dress or tank top break a strap? Have a pair of pants you'd like to learn to hem?

Come to The MINT and learn how to use a sewing machine and quickly fix, hem and modify all your favorite fashion pieces!!

Participants need to bring a piece of clothing with them that they would like to fix, mend or hem. Any type of fabric is okay but no knits.

This class is for anyone who wants to learn how to use a sewing machine and get oriented to the MINT textiles space. Beginners welcome!!

Students will receive:

  • An introduction to the features of the textiles lab, different parts of the sewing machines, basic setup.
  •  An overview of how to operate a sewing machine. Loading thread, bobbins, material; setting stitch type; moving fabric through the machine
  • Lots of hands-on practice and time for Q & A
