    Block Printing

    Sunday, August 30th from 11 AM -1PM | $10 per person

    Learn to create your own custom block print / stamp. Design something day-of, or bring a photo of an idea of the print you'd like to create. All materials included (lino, block stop, ink, use of roller and carving tools [generously loaned to us by the MINT]).

    Please note: this class uses sharp carving tools and thus is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

    The Joy of Letterpress

    Date: First Wednesday of Every Month
    Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

    About the Class

    Introduction to letterpress, and the joy of designing and printing wet ink on paper.

    A hands on class to learn the process of letterpress printing.  Attendees will be guided through the entire process of planning, preparing a chase with printing blocks, setting up a table top press, inking up a press, and making prints.  

    You will experience all the stages of creating a simple print, how to safely operate the printing equipment, and how to clean up.

    No prerequisites, or material fees.  Printing blocks, paper, and ink will be provided.  

    You will be able to keep any prints you create.

    What You’ll Learn

    • How to set up and operate a letterpress independently.
    • Techniques to enhance your existing letterpress skills.
    • Tips and tricks for achieving precision and creativity in your designs.

    What to Bring

    • Your creativity and any specific ideas or designs you’d like to work on.
    • All tools and materials will be provided.

    Spaces are limited! Reserve your spot and take your letterpress skills to the next level.

    Jewelry Shop Orientation


    Get started in the Jewelry Shop!

    Open to both Mint Members and Non-Members.


    Join us for a Jewelry Shop Orientation focused on safety & proper use of equipment that will allow you to utilize the Jewelry Shop afterwards.


    The Jewelry Shop Orientation will include safety basics, flex drill, torches/tanks, pickling, polisher, saws/blades, disc cutter, and care/ maintenance of tools and equipment.


    This is a Shop Orientation only and not project based, you will not make anything in this session. Once complete you will be able to use the Shop on your own.


    Time: 5-6pm Orientation / 6-7pm Q&A + project help

    Cost: FREE


    Safety: Please wear closed toed shoes, natural fiber clothing, tie back long hair, no loose clothing or jewelry that can get caught in equipment.


    Eye protection and masks will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

    Painting With Rae

    Join Rae Newell for a 10 week exploration in oil and acrylic painting. Rae brings to The MINT decades of painting and art instruction and we are very excited to have her! This class is open to adults and is hosted in our Jr MINT room at 112 Quality Lane. 

    Students should bring their favorite brushes, paints, pallet, and canvas. 

    If you are looking for supplies, please check out The MINT's Creative Reuse Shop, reMake, at 72 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland or Kaleidoscope Arts on Center Street also in Downtown. Rae will also have items on hand for things that get left at home.

    Stained Glass for Beginners: Rhombus Cube Sun Catcher

    Join us for an introduction to our Stained Glass shop!

    Using different colored and textured glass, we’ll arrange three diamond shapes (rhombuses) using the copper foil method to form a “3D” cube. 

    In this class you will leave knowing:

    • How to cut and shape glass from a pattern
    • Apply foil to the glass for soldering
    • How to use soldering irons on copper foil to join different glass pieces in a design
    • How to add a simple eye loop to a piece
    • All safety procedures for use of equipment and materials in the Stained Glass shop

    This beginner class will get your foot in the door of the Stained Glass shop. This course counts as a foundational class that will allow you to work independently in the shop.

    *Please wear close-toed shoes, bring water and snack. All other PPE provided by the Mint.

    Textured Metal Earrings


    An introduction to texturing metal using stamps and hammers to create designs for earrings.


    Students will take home a pair of handmade earrings while learning the skills to continue making jewelry on their own!


    What you'll learn:

    • How to use metal stamps and hammers, metal blocks, dabbing blocks, and sandpaper.
    • Safety and proper use of tools 
    • This class will include an Orientation to the shop that will allow participants to use the shop on their own after completion*


    Safety guidelines for attendance:

    Wear eye protection and masks provided by instructor when using certain tools during the construction of a jewelry piece.


    Wear closed-toed shoes, tie back hair, and do not wear clothing or jewelry that can become caught in machinery or around equipment.
