Aristotle called earthworms the “intestines of the earth.” These humble, misunderstood creatures have a bad reputation for being gross and slimy but that is simply not the case. They are important players in the decomposition of organic matter. What they leave behind is what gardeners, farmers, and houseplant enthusiasts call “black gold.” Like cow manure, vermicast (aka worm poop) is a highly prized soil amendment rich with nutrients and microbes that plants and soil love.

Vermicomposting is different from traditional composting. In this workshop, you will learn everything you need to know to get started. For instance, did you know there are over 9,000 species of earthworms, but only a handful are good food scrap composters? So how do you choose? From starting a worm bin to using the finished vermicompost, this workshop covers it all. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to start composting with worms and creating soil with soul
