Torch Fired Enamel Jewelry
This class consists of two 3hr classes
July 18 – session one 5:00 – 8:00 pm
July 25 – session two 5:00 – 8:00 pm
Session One (July 18 – 5:00 – 8:00 pm)
This popular workshop includes cutting base copper shapes, prepping copper for enamel, applying enamel, and using a torch to fuse enamel to copper pieces. Participants will complete at least one project using opaque enamel and one project using transparent enamel.
Students will learn:
Safely using enamel products and torches
Annealing, sanding, cleaning, and prepping base metal
Understanding transparent and opaque enamels
The importance of counter enameling
Session Two (July 25 – 5:00 – 8:00 pm)
Participants will finish any work left from session one and start work on more complex designs. You will decide enamel colors, choose a design element and/or embellishments, and fire pieces at the torch station. Projects will then be completed by adding complementary beads, forming twisted loops in wire, and attaching ear hooks and/or jump rings.
Students will learn:
Safely using enamel products and torches
Forming, sanding, cleaning, and prepping base metal
Choosing enamel colors, designs, stencils, embellishments, and using crackle enamels.
Simple wire wraps and attaching jump rings
Using small hand tools – pliers, loop making, cutters
Participants should be comfortable with the idea of holding and firing a mapp gas torch. Long hair should be pulled back and no loose clothing. Gloves and face masks are not mandatory, but feel free to wear them!
*** To participate in Session Two, students MUST have already taken the first 3-hour session of this class ***
