    Painting With Rae

    Join Rae Newell for a 10 week exploration in oil and acrylic painting. Rae brings to The MINT decades of painting and art instruction and we are very excited to have her! This class is open to adults and is hosted in our Jr MINT room at 112 Quality Lane. 

    Students should bring their favorite brushes, paints, pallet, and canvas. 

    If you are looking for supplies, please check out The MINT's Creative Reuse Shop, reMake, at 72 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland or Kaleidoscope Arts on Center Street also in Downtown. Rae will also have items on hand for things that get left at home.

    Stained Glass Ornaments

    Come join us and celebrate the season by creating your own stained-glass holiday ornaments!

    Using multiple colors and textured glass, arrange your pieces to create a unique ornament. Perfect for your own tree or to give as gifts. 

    This class focuses on skills and familiarity with the process.
    Students will leave with a small completed project.

    In this single-session 4 hour class, you will:

    - Choose complementary colors

    - Cut glass to a specific size and shape from a pattern

    - Apply foil to the glass for soldering

    - Solder the glass pieces together

    - Add hooks for hanging

    - Patina and polish to give it a finished look

    *Bring a snack and a drink, as we will be taking a 30min break in the middle of the workshop!

    No stained-glass experience necessary.

    New to the Mint and are excited for the pottery studio? This class is for you! Learn how to get comfortable in the space so that you can conquer any project with confidence!

    This is an orientation class, please do not plan on making an item to take home with you. This class is required in order to use the pottery studio independently. 

    What You’ll Learn:

    • Intro to the studio space
    • How to set up a pottery wheel to throw
    • Where work should be placed to be fired
    • Cleaning procedures and expectations
    • Where tools belong
    • Reclaim location
    • Glaze guidelines
    • Types of clay and glaze allowed
    • How to use the slab roller
    • How to use the extruder

    Holiday Mugs

    Come get yourself into the holiday spirit by making some festive mugs! We will employ several techniques to create some beautiful mugs. These will be fantastic gifts for the season (gifts for yourself or gifts for others!)

    This class is appropriate for all skill levels. We will provide hand building instruction and teach all participants to use the slab roller and extruder. We will also offer a wheel component to anyone who wants to try it out. This class includes 2 build days and 1 glazing session.

    Laser Engraver Orientation and Refresher


    Description:

    Learn how to properly set up and use the Laser Engraver


    This Orientation and Refresher class will focus on:

    • Safety
    • Programming with LightBurn
    • Choosing Materials for the Laser Cutting/Engraving/Etching - Time to Laser!
    • Cleanup

    Participants must have a solid understanding of computer navigation.

    Experience with vector-based programs (such as Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, Graphic, etc.) is beneficial.

    Who Should Attend:

    • Mint Members who want to use the laser or need a refresher.
    • This class is required for using the Laser

    Fused Glass Holiday Tree Ornaments

    Fused glass ornaments are great small pieces of art to decorate any holiday tree or for gift giving. In this class you will make holiday tree ornaments based on my custom ornament template in glimmering Coe 90 glass. Replicate my design or create your own tree trimming design.

    You will learn:

    • Glass preparation for fusing
    • How to use basic glass tools for glass cutting and pattern layering
    • Kiln overview, glass technology and safety
    • Creation and Use of cutting templates for design layouts
    • Use of glass rods and frit to add texture to your projects.

    This class is good for beginners and intermediate glass artists. Ages 16 and up.

    Drilled ornaments will be full fused after class and picked up following week.

    NOTE:  No Opened Toed Shoes, bring Eye Protection if you have your own (safety glasses or safety goggles recommended), no open containers of beverages, face masks recommended for use with grinders.

    The Joy of Letterpress

    Date: First Wednesday of Every Month
    Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

    About the Class

    Introduction to letterpress, and the joy of designing and printing wet ink on paper.

    A hands on class to learn the process of letterpress printing.  Attendees will be guided through the entire process of planning, preparing a chase with printing blocks, setting up a table top press, inking up a press, and making prints.  

    You will experience all the stages of creating a simple print, how to safely operate the printing equipment, and how to clean up.

    No prerequisites, or material fees.  Printing blocks, paper, and ink will be provided.  

    You will be able to keep any prints you create.

    What You’ll Learn

    • How to set up and operate a letterpress independently.
    • Techniques to enhance your existing letterpress skills.
    • Tips and tricks for achieving precision and creativity in your designs.

    What to Bring

    • Your creativity and any specific ideas or designs you’d like to work on.
    • All tools and materials will be provided.

    Mosaic Christmas Trees

    Let's play with shapes, tile, glass, and grout! 


    Class learning objectives:

    1.  Understand Styrofoam as a substrate, its pros and cons and how to prep it for mosaics.

    2.  Design and create a pleasing tree design

    3. Learn to grout and complete your design.


    This is a two session class.*

    New to the wheel or need a refresher? This class is perfect for pottery beginners looking to learn a new skill and create something beautiful! This class will give you all the basic skills needed to get started in the clay studio.

    What You’ll Learn:

    • Working with the Wheel: Get familiar with the potter's wheel.
    • Centering Clay: Learn the essential technique of centering your clay.
    • Throwing a Basic Form: Shape your clay into a foundational form.
    • Trimming on the Wheel: Refine and clean up your piece.
    • Glazing: Add the finishing touch by glazing your pottery.

    Dates:

    Advanced Wheel Class - Learn to Make a Teapot

    Instructors: Savannah

    This class is for intermediate to advanced students who have a decent amount of wheel experience. Please note, if you are a beginner, this will not be an easy class. 

    What You’ll Learn:

    • Throwing a Lidded Form: Learn to throw different types of lids and the form to support them.
    • Spout Creation: Learn different methods to create a teapot spout and benefits of each.
    • Different Types of Handles: Handles are great, and picking the right one for your form is important.
    • Spout Placement: Making sure your vessel actually pours well.
    • Glazing: Add the finishing touch by glazing your pottery.
