    A Study in Leaves - Fold Forming and Texturing Copper

    Dates/times:

    April 16 and April 23, 2024 – 4:00 – 7:00 pm

    Instructor: Christie Harris

    In this “make and take” class, participants will explore fold forming and texturing copper to create organic leaf shapes. Participants will force the copper to patina, choosing from a variety of techniques, and finish their jewelry pieces into an earrings and pendant set. We’ll be using a mapp gas torch to anneal our pieces. Participants should be comfortable with the idea of holding and firing a torch. This is a two-session class.

    Key learning points:

    ·        Cutting copper base metal

    ·        Annealing

    ·        Fold forming

    ·        Using texturing (and other) hammers

    ·        Exploring patina

    ·        Simple wire wraps

    ·        Using small hand tools – pliers, loop making, cutters, hole punch

    SAFETY: Participants should bring gloves to prevent cuts from sharp metal. Long hair should be tied back.

    Copper Cuff Bracelets

    Instructor: Christie Harris

    Dates/times:

    April 20 and April 27, 2024 – 10:00 am – 12:00 pm


     In this “make and take” class, participants will explore fold forming and texturing copper to create a copper cuff bracelet. Participants will force the copper to patina, choosing from a variety of techniques, and finish their bracelet with a wax sealant. We’ll be using a mapp gas torch to anneal our pieces. Participants should be comfortable with the idea of holding and firing a torch. This is a two-session class.

    ·        Using texturing (and other) hammers

    Intro to Beaded Jewelry


    For the love of beads! Join jewelry instructor Christie Harris for a 3-hour workshop in which participants will learn the basics of design with beads.

    This is a make and take class, where your creativity and some basic instruction will result in a finished necklace and earrings.

    Tools and materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own beads to incorporate in your design. 

    This class meets in the Jr. Mint space, to the right of the front office area.

    Key learning points:

    ·        Understanding beading components and their use

    ·        Using a design board to plan a project

    ·        Coordinating beads, stringing, adding clasps, and finishing

    ·        Simple wire wraps to complete projects

    ·        Using small hand tools – pliers, loop making, cutters, crimping

    Torch Fired Enameling - Advanced

    In this 3-hour workshop, participants will make a pair of enameled earrings or pendant. The process will include deciding on enamel colors, choosing a design element and embellishments, and firing at the torch station. Participants will then finish their projects by adding complementary beads, forming twisted loops in wire, and attaching ear hooks and/or jump rings.

    *** To participate in this class, students  MUST have already taken Intro to Torch Fired Enamel Jewelry *** 

    Thursday, May 9, 2024, 4:30 – 7:30 pm

    Students will learn:

    • Safety using enamel products and torches
    • Forming, sanding, cleaning, and prepping base metal
    • Choosing enamel colors, designs, stencils, embellishments, and using crackle enamels.
    • Simple wire wraps to complete a jewelry project
    • Use of small hand tools such as pliers and cutters to create loops
    Long hair should be pulled back, and sleeves should be fitted not loose.

    Fee includes $15 materials

    *Not-yet Members may take this or any other class at The MINT. Become a Member to gain independent access to our shops outside of class time.
